Throttle Position (TP) Sensor

  1. Ensure ignition is off. Unplug TP sensor harness connector. Connect an ohmmeter between terminals No. 1 and 2 of TP sensor connector. See Fig 1 . Insert a .025" (.65 mm) feeler gauge between fixed Speed Adjusting Screw (SAS) and throttle lever.
  2. Loosen the TP sensor mounting screws. Turn the TP sensor fully counterclockwise. Ensure continuity exists between connector terminals No. 1 and 2. Slowly rotate TP sensor clockwise until continuity no longer exists.
  3. After adjustment, on 2.0L, tighten TP sensor mounting screws to 13-22 INCH lbs. (1.5-2.5 N.m). On 3.0L, tighten TP sensor mounting screws to 22-39 INCH lbs. (2.5-4.4 N.m).
  4. Tighten throttle cable. Reconnect TP sensor connector. Disconnect vehicle battery for at least 15 seconds to erase diagnostic memory. Reconnect battery. Start engine and check idle speed.
