Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

  1. With ignition off, connect Test Harness (09351-33000 ) between TPS and harness connector. Connect a digital voltmeter between both terminals of test harness leads.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position with engine off. Check TPS voltage. If reading is not 48-.52 volt, loosen throttle cable. Loosen TPS mounting screws. Turn TPS clockwise (increase) or counterclockwise (decrease) until correct voltage is obtained.
  3. After adjustment, on all models except Sonata 3.0L, tighten TPS screw to 13-22 INCH lbs. (1.5-2.5 N.m). On Sonata 3.0L, tighten TPS screw to 22-39 INCH lbs. (2.5-4.4 N.m).
  4. Turn ignition off, and disconnect digital voltmeter. Tighten throttle cable. Disconnect vehicle battery for at least 15 seconds to erase diagnostic memory. Reconnect battery. Start engine and check idle speed.
