Key Lock Solenoid Test

  1. Disconnect electrical connector at key lock solenoid. Key lock solenoid is located in ignition lock assembly on steering column.
  2. Using ohmmeter measure resistance between terminals on key lock solenoid electrical connector. Replace key lock solenoid if resistance is not 12.5-16.5 ohms.
  3. To check key lock solenoid operation, connect battery voltage to terminals on key lock solenoid electrical connector. See Fig 1.
  4. When battery voltage is applied, clicking sound should be heard to indicate solenoid operation. Replace key lock solenoid if solenoid fails to operate.
