Checking Fluid Level: Transmission

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 1989 Mitsubishi Van, 1989 Mitsubishi Starion, 1989 Mitsubishi Sigma, 1989 Mitsubishi Precis, and 1989 Mitsubishi Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Park vehicle on level area. Oil must be at normal operating temperature, parking brake engaged and engine at idle. Move gear selector through each position, stopping briefly in each position.
  2. Place selector in Neutral and clean area around dipstick tube. Ensure fluid level is between lower and upper marks, but never over upper mark in "HOT" range. Add or drain fluid as necessary.
CAUTION: If severe darkening of the fluid and a strong odor is noted, fluid and filter should be changed and bands adjusted.
