Steering Column: Installation
- Install dust cover to intermediate shaft. Ensure bearing side of cover faces steering shaft side of intermediate shaft.
- Apply grease to bearing and dust cover. Install 2-piece bearing into dust cover. See Fig 1 . Attach intermediate shaft lower joint to steering gear. See Fig 2 . Temporarily tighten dust cover bolts. Tighten lower joint clamp bolt.
- Connect intermediate shaft upper joint to steering shaft. Attach steering column brackets to dash. Tighten clamp bolt of intermediate shaft. Tighten column bracket bolts.
- Loosen dust cover bolts. Position dust cover so no clearance exists between joint and dust cover. Remove screws. Remove steering lock. Always use new screws and bracket when replacing steering lock.
- If steering column bracket is removed, cut a slot in retaining bolt with hacksaw. Using a screwdriver, remove retaining bolt. Always use new bolts when installing bracket to steering column.
