Installation Procedure

  1. Perform the following procedure before installing the steering column bolts and the upper intermediate steering shaft bolt:
    1. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    2. Clean the threads of each bolt with denatured alcohol, or equivalent, and allow to dry.
    3. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488).

  3. Engage the steering column (1) to the upper intermediate steering shaft.
  4. Position the steering column in place.

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  6. Install the steering column bolts (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  8. Install the upper intermediate steering shaft bolt and nut (1) to the steering column.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 62 N.m (46 lb ft).

  9. Connect any electrical connectors as needed.
  10. Install the driver knee bolster bracket. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Right Hand Drive) or Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Left Hand Drive) .
  11. Remove anti-rotation pin J 42640  .
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
