Installation Procedure

  1. Install the steering column to the vehicle.
  2. Perform the following procedure before installing the steering column bolts:
    1. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    2. Clean the threads of each bolt with denatured alcohol, or equivalent, and allow to dry.
    3. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488).

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  4. Install the steering column bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  5. Perform the following procedure before installing the upper intermediate steering shaft bolt:
    1. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    2. Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol, or equivalent, and allow to dry.
    3. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or blue, medium LOCTITE™.
  6. Install the upper intermediate steering shaft bolt. Refer to Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement 

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 62 N.m (46 lb ft).

  7. Connect any electrical connectors as needed.
  8. Install the driver knee bolster bracket. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Left Hand Drive) or Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Right Hand Drive) .
  9. Remove anti-rotation pin J 42640  . See Special Tools .
  10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
