Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu Classic. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT:
When removing connectors, inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector:
- The PPS module
- The SDM module
- The PPS module harness connector
- The SDM wiring harness connector
- Ignition ON, Verify the passenger air bag ON/OFF indicators illuminate.
- If the indicators do not illuminate, refer to Passenger Presence System Indicator Circuit Malfunction .
- Ignition ON, verify no PPS DTCs are set.
- If any PPS DTCs are set as current or history, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .
- Verify the correct PPS part number is installed in the vehicle.
- If the wrong PPS was installed, replace with the correct PPS.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the PPS module.
- Ignition OFF, test for less then 5 ohms between the PPS module ground circuit terminal 6 and ground.
- If greater then the specified range, test the circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the PPS module ignition circuit terminal 2 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If circuit tests normal replace the PPS module.
- Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the PPS module B+ circuit terminal 1 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If circuit tests normal replace the PPS module.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the SDM.
