Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu Classic. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT:
When removing connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector.
- The RF seat belt retractor pretensioner
- The SDM module
- The RF seat belt retractor pretensioner wiring harness connector
- The SDM wiring harness connector
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the RF inflatable restraint seat belt pretensioner.
- Use the appropriate load tool adapter to connect the J 38715-A to the harness side of the RF inflatable restraint seat belt pretensioner connector. See Special Tools . Use the PASSENGER INFLATOR connector located on the load tool
- Ignition ON, with a scan tool, verify the appropriate DTC is set as current.
- If DTC is not set or is set as history, replace the RF inflatable restraint seat belt pretensioner.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the appropriate load tool adapter and J 38715-A . See Special Tools .
- Disconnect the harness connector at the SDM.
- Ignition ON, test for less than 1-volt between the high control circuit terminal 2 and ground.
- If not within the specified range, test the circuit for a short to voltage.
- Test for less than 1-volt between the low control circuit terminal 1 and ground.
- If not within the specified range, test the circuit for a short to voltage.
- Ignition OFF, test for infinite resistance between the high control circuit terminal 2 and ground.
- If not within the specified range, test the circuit for a short to ground.
- Test for infinite resistance between the applicable low control circuit terminal 1 and ground.
- If not within the specified range, test the circuit for a short to ground.
- Test for less then 1 ohm between the RF inflatable restraint seat belt pretensioner terminal 1 and SDM terminal 57.
- If not within the specified range, test the circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Test for less then 1 ohm between the RF inflatable restraint seat belt pretensioner terminal 2 and SDM terminal 56.
- If not within the specified range, test the circuit for an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the SDM.
