Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering hose assembly to the vehicle.
    1. If seal replacement is needed, remove the power steering gear from the vehicle. Refer to Power Steering Gear Replacement .
    2. Remove the power steering gear oil seals from the power steering gear using J 44586  . See Special Tools .
    3. NOTE: Clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet ports thoroughly of any debris. Failure to do so could result in contamination and damage to the power steering system components.
    4. Clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet ports of any debris.
    5. Install the power steering gear oil seals to the power steering gear usingJ 44586  . See Special Tools .
    6. Install the power steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Gear Replacement .
  2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the power steering hose assembly to the power steering gear bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the power steering gear retaining bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

  4. Install the power steering hose assembly clip retaining bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the power steering hose assembly clip retaining bolts to 9 N.m (79 lb in).

  5. Lower the vehicle.

  7. Connect the power steering hose assembly to the power steering pump.

    Tighten:  Tighten the power steering hose connection to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  8. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
  9. Fill the power steering pump reservoir to the appropriate level.
  10. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
