Steering Linkage Shock Absorber Replacement

Steering Damper Replacement

Callout Component Name

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the engine protection shield. Refer to Engine Protection Shield Replacement .
1 Steering Linkage Shock Absorber Ball Stud Nut
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .

Tip: 
  • Do not reuse the nut.
  • Remove the shock absorber ball stud from the relay rod using the J 24319-B  . See Special Tools .

Tighten:  Tighten the steering damper ball stud nut to 40 N.m (30 lb ft).

2 Shock Absorber Mounting Nut/Bolt
Tip:  Do not reuse the bolt or nut.

Tighten:  Tighten the mounting nut and bolt to 40 N.m (30 lb ft).

3 Steering Damper
Tip:  During installation use J 29193  to tighten the steering linkage installer in order to seat the ball stud into the relay rod. See Special Tools .

Tighten:  Tighten the steering linkage installer to 32 N.m (24 lb ft).

  • J 24319-B  Universal Steering Linkage Puller. See Special Tools .
  • J 29193  Steering Linkage Installer (12 mm). See Special Tools .
