Installation Procedure

    Fig 1: Power Steering Gear & Mounting Bolts

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  1. Position the steering gear to the frame and install the 3 steering gear mounting bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the 3 steering gear mounting bolts to 150 N.m (111 lb ft).

  2. Install the pitman arm to the steering gear. Refer to Pitman Arm Replacement .
  3. Install the engine protection shield. Refer to Engine Protection Shield Replacement .
  4. Lower the vehicle.

  6. Position the intermediate shaft to the steering gear and install the pinch bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

  8. Using new O-ring seals, connect the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to the steering gear.

    Tighten:  Tighten the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose fitting to 28 N.m (21 lb ft).

  10. Using new O-ring seals, connect the power steering cooler pipe/hose to the steering gear.

    Tighten:  Tighten the power steering cooler pipe/hose fitting to 28 N.m (21 lb ft).

  11. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
