Removal Procedure
- Set the front wheels in the straight-ahead position.
- Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3
in SIR.
- Lock the steering column through the access hole in the lower steering column trim cover using J 42640
. See Special Tools .
- Remove the inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Make an alignment mark in order to note the relationship of the steering wheel to the steering shaft.

- Loosen the steering wheel nut 2 complete revolutions.
- Carefully unseat the steering wheel from the steering column.
- Remove the steering wheel nut (2).
- Remove the steering wheel from the steering column.
