Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery) .
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  4. Remove the engine protective shield. Refer to Engine Protection Shield Replacement .
  5. Remove the transmission cover bolt.

  7. Remove the starter bolts.
  8. Disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  9. Slide the starter forward until the starter clears the transmission.

  11. Remove the starter lead nut (3).
  12. Remove the starter lead (2) from the starter.

  14. Remove the positive cable nut (2).
  15. Remove the positive cable from the starter.

  17. Place the starter on a workbench.
  18. Unsnap the transmission cover from the starter.

  20. Remove the starter heat shield.
