Diagnostic System Check

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table:

  1. - Lack of communication may be due to a partial malfunction of the serial data circuit or due to a total malfunction of the serial data circuit. The specified procedure will determine the particular condition.
  2. - The presence of DTCs which begin with "U" indicate some other module is not communicating. The specified procedure with compile the available information before tests are performed.
  3. - The presence of ABS DTCs indicate that the EBCM requested illumination of the Red Brake indicator due to a concern in the ABS system. The presence of DTCs other than those listed are not related to this system.

  1. Install scan tool. Does the scan tool power up? If so, go to next step. If not, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - AURORA article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Attempt to establish communication with the following control modules:
    • The Driver Information Center (DIC)
    • The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
    • The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
    Does the scan tool communicate with all control modules? If so, go to next step. If not, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - AURORA article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. Select the display DTC's function on the scan tool for the following control modules:
    • The Driver Information Center (DIC)
    • The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
    • The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
    Does the scan tool display any DTC's? If so, go to next step. If not, go to SYMPTOMS (HYDRAULIC BRAKES)  .
  4. Does the scan tool display any DTC's which begin with a "U"? If so, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - AURORA article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If not, go to next step.
  5. Does scan tool display DTC B1004 or B1007? If so, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - AURORA article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If not, go to next step.
  6. Does scan tool display DTC B1327, B1513, or B1514? If so, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - AURORA article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If not, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in appropriate ANTI-LOCK article.
