Installation Procedure

  1. Place a small amount of sealant GM P/N 12345739 (Canadian P/N 10953541) or equivalent at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases (1).

  2. Place the engine front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins.
  3. Place the engine front cover in position on the crankcase.
  4. Install the engine front cover retaining bolts.

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  5. Tighten the engine front cover bolts in the sequence shown.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the engine front cover bolts in proper sequence to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to CRANKSHAFT BALANCER REPLACEMENT  .
  7. Install the bolts (3) securing the engine mount bracket (1) to the engine.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the engine mount bracket bolts (3, 4) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  8. Install the nut (2) securing the power steering hose to the engine mount bracket (1).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nut to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  9. Install the nut securing the engine mount to the engine mount bracket.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the mount nut to 80 N.m (59 lb ft).

  10. Remove the engine support jack.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Install the drive belt idler pulley.

  13. Install the drive belt idler pulley bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the drive belt idler pulley bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  14. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to DRIVE BELT TENSIONER REPLACEMENT  .
