- Ignition Timing - Inspect
Preconditions
- No DTCs Set
- Engine Warmed UpNOTE:
Warm up the engine by raising the engine speed around 3,000 rpm until the cooling fan(s) comes on.
- Idle Speed Normal Condition
- HDS Connected
Procedure/Specifications
1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
2. Start the engine.
3. Connect the timing light (a) to the service loop (white tape) (b). Check the ignition timing under the following conditions.
NOTE:Check the ignition timing while aligning the upper pointer (c) and the lower pointer (d) of the cam chain case as shown.

- At idle in P or N
The pointer and white mark should align .0 +/-2° BTDC d Lower Pointer e White Mark Result
- If the measurement is not within specifications, check the camshaft timing . If the camshaft timing is OK, update the PCM - Refer to: PCM Update or PCM Reset if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM , then recheck. If the system works properly, and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM .
