Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) Test: Test

How to use this manual .

NOTICE:  

Use a borescope that meets the following requirements.

  1. VCM - Test (VCM Inoperative State)

    Preconditions

    Procedure/Specifications 

    NOTICE:  

    Be careful not to drop the borescope accessories inside the cylinder bores.

    1. Refer to figure 1.

    Tool Details (Figure 1) 

    Name
    a Borescope (Commercially Available)

    Recommended model: Snap-on BK5600 DUAL55

    2. Rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise.

    3. Make sure that the valves move. (Figure 2)

    Specifications (Figure 2) 

    Specification
    The valve moves

    Result 

    • If it is abnormal, check that the slide pin in the valve lifter moves smoothly.
  2. VCM - Test (VCM Operation State)

    Preconditions

    Procedure/Specifications 

    NOTICE:  

    Be careful not to drop the borescope accessories inside the cylinder bores.

    1. Refer to figure 1.

    Tool Details (Figure 1) 

    Name
    a Borescope (Commercially Available)

    Recommended model: Snap-on BK5600 DUAL55

    2. Check that the air pressure on the shop air compressor gauge indicates over 690 kPa (7.04 kgf/cm2 , 100.1 psi).

    3. Install the air adapter to the inspection hole, then connect the air pressure regulator as shown. (Figure 2)

    4. With the specified air pressure applied, rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise. Make sure that the valves do not move. (Figure 3)

    Specifications (Figure 3) 

    Condition Specification
    Apply the 441-490 kPa (4.50-5.00 kgf/cm2 , 64.0-71.1 psi) The valve does not move

    Result 

    • If it is abnormal, check that the slide pin in the valve lifter moves smoothly.
  3. Valve Lifter - Test

    Preconditions

    Procedure/Specifications 

    • Inspect the slide pin (a). Push on slide pin manually.

    Specifications 

    Object Specification
    a Slide pin move smoothly.

    Result 

    • If it is abnormal, replace the valve lifter.
