Throttle Body Cleaning: Cleaning

WARNING:

Do not insert your fingers into the installed throttle body when you turn the vehicle to the ON mode, or while the vehicle is in ON mode. If you do, you will seriously injure your fingers if the throttle valve is activated.

How to use this service information .

  1. Throttle Body - Clean

    Preconditions

    Procedure 

    • Clean off the carbon from the throttle valve and inside the throttle body with a paper towel soaked in throttle plate cleaner.
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to pinch your fingers.
      • To avoid removing the molybdenum coating, do not clean the bearing area of the throttle shaft (a).
      • Do not spray throttle plate cleaner directly on the throttle body.
      • Use a commercially available throttle plate cleaner.

    After Cleaning 

    • After installing the throttle body, do the following:

    1. Connect the HDS .

    2. Reset the PCM - Refer to: PCM Update  or PCM Reset .

    3. Clear the throttle position (TP) learned value.

    • Select the following menu buttons on the HDS screen in sequence.
      • PGM-FI (System Selection Menu)
      • Function Test
      • ETCS (TAC) TEST
      • TP POSITION CHECK

    4. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    5. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 2 seconds.

    NOTE:

    Do not press the accelerator pedal.

    6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    7. PCM idle learning .
