Stall Speed Test: Test
- ATF Level - Check
- HDS DLC - Connect
- Engine - Warm Up
1. Start the engine, and warm it up to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on twice). - Stall Speed - Test
1. Apply the parking brake, and block all four wheels.
2. Make sure the A/C switch is OFF.
3. Shift the transmission to D position/mode while pressing the brake pedal firmly, then press the accelerator pedal, and note the engine speed at each time as following table.
NOTE: Do not change the shift position/mode or remove your foot off the brake pedal, while raising the engine speed.4. Allow 2 minutes for cooling, then repeat the test in R positions/modes.
- Do not test stall speed for more than 10 seconds at a time.
- Stall speed tests should be used for diagnostic purposes only.
Stall Speed rpm
Standard: D Position/Mode Less than 5 seconds: 1, 500-1, 900 rpm More than 5 seconds: 1, 100-1, 300 rpm R Position/Mode Less than 5 seconds: 1, 750-2, 150 rpm More than 5 seconds: 1, 100-1, 300 rpm 5. If any of the stall speeds are out of the standard, refer to the problems and primary probable causes listed in the table.
Problem Primary Probable Causes Stall speed rpm high in D position/mode - ATF pump output low
- Clutch slipping
Stall speed rpm high in R position/mode Clutch slipping Problem Primary Probable Causes Stall speed rpm low in D and R positions/modes - Engine output low
- Engine throttle valve closed
- Torque converter one-way clutch slipping
