DTC P0710
DTC P0710 : ATF Temperature Sensor Out of Range
General Description
The ATF temperature sensor is integrated to the sensor unit in the transmission. The transmission control module (TCM) monitors output voltage of the ATF temperature sensor. If the ATF temperature sensor output voltage is a specified value for a specified duration when the ATF temperature (ATF temperature sensor value) is a specified range, the TCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type
| Execution | Continuous |
| Sequence | None |
| Duration | 65 seconds or more |
| DTC Type | One drive cycle, MIL on*, A/T gear position indicator blinks |
*: MIL comes on at second drive cycle

[ ]: HDS Parameter
Malfunction Threshold
One of these conditions is met for at least 65 seconds:
- The ATF temperature sensor output voltage [ATF Temperature - Volts] is 3.6 V or more when the ATF temperature [ATF Temperature] is -40 deg.F (-40 deg.C) or less.
- The ATF temperature sensor output voltage [ATF Temperature - Volts] is 0.5 V or less when the ATF temperature [ATF Temperature] is 313 deg.F (156 deg.C) or less.
Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- ATF temperature sensor TATFP line open (includes a loose or disconnected connector)
- ATF temperature sensor TATFM line open (includes a loose or disconnected connector)
- ATF temperature sensor TATFP line short to ground
- ATF temperature sensor TATFM line short to ground
- Sensor unit failure (ATF temperature sensor)
- TCM internal failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
Start the engine, and wait for at least 65 seconds in P position/mode.
With the HDS
None.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, the A/T gear position indicator blinks and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the TCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The A/T gear position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
