Rocker Arm And Shaft Disassembly, Reassembly, And Inspection: Inspection
- Rocker Arm and Shaft - Inspect
1. Measure the diameter of the shaft at the first rocker location. 2. Zero the dial indicator to the shaft diameter. 3. Measure the inside diameter of the rocker arm, and check it for an out-of-round condition. Rocker Arm-to-Shaft Clearance
Standard (New):
0.015-0.046 mm (0.00059-0.00181 in)
Service Limit:
0.046 mm (0.00181 in)4. Repeat for all rockers and both shafts. If the clearance is over the limit, replace the rocker shaft and all over-tolerance rocker arms. If any variable cylinder management rocker arm needs replacement, replace all rocker arms in that set.
FRONT (INTAKE) REAR (INTAKE)
VTEC Rocker Arms 5. Inspect the rocker arm pistons (A). Slide them into the rocker arms. If they do not move smoothly, replace the rocker arm set.
NOTE:
- Apply new engine oil to the rocker arm pistons when reassembling.
- When removing the rocker arm pistons from the intake primary rocker arm (B) and the intake secondary L and H rocker arms (C), carefully apply air pressure to the oil passage of the rocker arm.
REAR (INTAKE) REAR (EXHAUST)
Variable Cylinder Management Rocker Arms 6. Inspect the rocker arm pistons (A). Slide them into the rocker arms. If they do not move smoothly, replace the rocker arm set.
NOTE:
- Apply new engine oil to the rocker arm pistons when reassembling.
- When removing the rocker arm pistons from the intake primary rocker arm (B), intake secondary L and H rocker arms (C) and the exhaust secondary rocker arms (D), carefully apply air pressure to the oil passage of the rocker arm.
