Electrical Compass Troubleshooting

NOTE: Check the vehicle battery condition first (see BATTERY TEST ).
  1. Check the No. 10 (7.5A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES  -Go to step 2.

NO  -Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. 10 (7.5A) fuse circuit.

  2. Check that the electrical compass unit 6P connector is properly connected.

    Is the connector properly connected?

    YES  -Go to step 3.

NO  -Reconnect the connector, and recheck.

  3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  4. Measure the voltage between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES  -Go to step 5.

NO  -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 1 and the No. 10 (7.5A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

  5. Measure the voltage between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.

Is there less than 0.2 V?

    YES  -Go to step 6.

NO  -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground (G601) (see CONNECTOR TO HARNESS INDEX ).

  6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  7. Disconnect audio unit connector D (20P) and the electrical compass 6P connector.
  8. Check for continuity between body ground and the electrical compass unit 6P connector according to the table.

    Is there continuity?

YES  -Substitute a known-good electrical compass unit (see ELECTRICAL COMPASS UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION  ), and recheck. If the symptom/Indication goes away, replace the original electrical compass unit (see ELECTRICAL COMPASS UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION  ). If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio unit (see AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).

NO  -Repair an open in the wire(s) between the electrical compass unit and the audio unit.
