PGM-FI System Description - Electronic Control
The PCM consists of a CPU memory (storage unit) and I/O and controls the fuel injection, injection timing, idling and ETCS.
Fail-safe Function
When an abnormality occurs in the signal from a sensor or from another control unit, the PCM ignores that signal and substitutes a pre-programmed value for them that allows the engine to continue running. This causes a DTC to be stored and the MIL to come on.
Updated Function
The PCM has a rewritable ROM. The ROM can acquire the latest version of the program using the MVCI.
Self Shut Down (SSD) Mode
The PCM stays on for up to an hour after the vehicle is set to OFF (LOCK) mode. Jumping the SCS line after turning the vehicle to OFF (LOCK) mode cancels this function. Disconnecting the PCM during this function, without jumping the SCS line first, can damage the PCM.
