DTC U0312: Battery Condition Monitor Module, Motor Control Module and PGM-FI System Program Version Mismatch (124)

General Description

GHH256066Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.

Software of the battery condition monitor module, powertrain control module (PCM) and motor control module (generator) can be rewritten using a rewriter (including HDS) externally connected via F-CAN communication. This DTC illuminates a warning lamp in order to advise that software on a side is not correctly rewritten when it is required to rewrite software of the battery condition monitor module, PCM and motor control module (generator). Each control module sends and receives program version information via F-CAN communication to compare each other's version information and detects a malfunction and stores a DTC when the version information of the battery condition monitor module is outdated.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type, OBD Status

Execution Continuous
Sequence None
Duration 1.0 second or more
DTC Type One drive cycle, MIL on, POWER SYSTEM indicator on
OBD Status PASSED/FAILED/NOT COMPLETED (STILL TESTING)

Enable Conditions

Condition
Other F-CAN between the PCM and battery condition monitor module should be normal
F-CAN between the motor control module (generator) and battery condition monitor module should be normal

Malfunction Threshold

The battery control processor judges that its own software version is old for at least 1.0 second.

Possible Cause

NOTE:  The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the battery condition monitor module memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
