Electrical Compass Troubleshooting

NOTE: Check the vehicle battery condition first (see BATTERY TEST ).

Check the No. C11 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?

YES -Go to step 2.

NO -Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. C11 (7.5 A) fuse circuit.
Check if the electrical compass unit 6P connector is properly connected.
Is the connector properly connected?

YES -Go to step 3.

NO -Reconnect the connector, and recheck.
Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
Measure the voltage between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 6 and body ground.

Is there battery voltage?

YES -Go to step 5.

NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the No. C11 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the electrical compass unit.
Measure the voltage between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 5 and body ground.

Is there less than 0.2 V?

YES -Go to step 6.

NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the electrical compass unit and body ground (G701) (see ROOF WIRE HARNESS (WITH MOONROOF) (J) ).
Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
Disconnect the electrical compass unit 6P connector and audio unit connector B (20P).

Check for continuity between the electrical compass unit 6P connector and body ground according to the table.

Is there continuity?

YES -Repair a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the electrical compass unit and the audio unit.

NO -Go to step 9.

Check for continuity between the electrical compass unit 6P connector and audio unit connector B (20P) according to the table.

Is there continuity?

YES -Repair an open in the wire(s) between the electrical compass unit and the audio unit.

NO -Substitute a known-good electrical compass unit (see Electrical Compass Unit Removal/Installation ), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original electrical compass unit (see Electrical Compass Unit Removal/Installation ). If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio unit (see AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
