With Power Tailgate

NOTE: Put on gloves to protect your hands.

If the tailgate latch does not open by using the keyless entry transmitter, remove the maintenance lid (A) from the tailgate lower trim panel, then turn the emergency lever (B) clockwise as shown in the figure.

Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION ).
Remove the tailgate lower trim panel (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - TAILGATE AREA ).
Remove the tailgate latch assembly (A).
1. Disconnect the power tailgate closer unit connectors (B).
2. Remove the bolts (C, D), and pull out the tailgate latch assembly.

Install the latch assembly in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Make sure each connector is plugged in properly.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION ).
- If necessary, reset the power tailgate control unit (see RESETTING THE POWER TAILGATE CONTROL UNIT ).
- Make sure the tailgate opens properly and locks securely.
