Key Interlock Solenoid Test

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX and PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES before doing repair or service.

  1. Remove the steering column covers.
  2. Disconnect the steering lock assembly 6P connector (A) and then turn the ignition switch to ACC (I).

  3. Connect battery boltage to terminal No. 4 of the steering lock assembly and ground terminal No. 3, then try turning the ignition switch to LOCK (0); the ignition switch should not turn.
  4. Disconnect the power and ground from terminals, then turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and remove the key; the ignition switch should turn and the key can be removed.
  5. If the key interlock solenoid does not work as specified, replace the steering lock assembly (see STEERING COLUMN INSPECTION ).
