Engine Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2015 Honda Crosstour, 2014 Honda Crosstour, 2013 Honda Crosstour, 2012 Honda Crosstour, and 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour. Special Tools Required 

*Available through the Honda Tool and Equipment Program 888-424-6857.

  1. Install the engine mount brackets and the accessory brackets, then tighten their bolts to the specified torque.

  2. Replace the new upper transmission mount stud bolt (A).

  3. Position the engine/transmission under the vehicle. Be sure that they are properly aligned. Carefully lower the vehicle until the engine/transmission are properly positioned in the engine compartment. Make sure the vehicle is not resting on any part of the engine/transmission. Support the engine/transmission with a chain hoist (A) and carefully raise the engine/transmission into place.
    NOTE: Reinstall the mounting bolts/support nuts in the sequence given in the following steps. Failure to follow this sequence may cause excessive noise and vibration, and reduce engine mount life.

  4. Install the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with several spacers (B) and a 10 x 1.25 mm bolt (C). Remove the rear arm from the engine hanger balance bar, then install the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033). Attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm to the rear cylinder head with a spacer (D) and an 8 x 1.25 mm bolt (E).

  5. Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook to the slotted hole in the engine hanger balance bar. Tighten the wing nut (F) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission.
    NOTE:
    • Be careful when working around the windshield.
    • Be careful not to damage the hood opener cable when installing the engine support hanger at the front bulkhead.
    • AAR-T1256 two sets required for stacking additional cross section bar.
  6. Install the mounting bolts into the upper half of the side engine mount bracket. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

  7. Tighten the upper transmission mount bracket mounting bolts and nut to the specified torque, then install the harness bracket.

  8. Install the ground cable.

  9. Remove the chain hoist, then raise the vehicle on the lift.
  10. Using the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) and a jack, raise the front subframe up to the body.

  11. Loosely install the new front subframe mounting bolts (four) (A), the 12 x 1.25 mm bolts (two) (B), the bolts (two) (C), and the stiffeners (D).
  12. Alighn the front subframe with the subframe alignment pin (see SUBFRAME REPLACEMENT ).
  13. Remove the transmission jack and the subframe adapter.
  14. Discard the subframe middle rubber mount bolts (A), then tighten the new bolts to the specified torque on both sides.

  15. Install the lower transmission mount nuts.

  16. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  17. Remove the engine support hanger, the engine hanger balance bar, and the 2008 V6 attachment arm.
  18. Tighten the front engine mount bolt (A), then install the new front engine mount stop mounting nuts (B), and connect the engine mount actuator connector (C), and install the connector (D) to the front subframe.

  19. Tighten the new rear engine mount bolt (A), then install the new rear engine mount stop mounting nuts (B), and connect the engine mount actuator connector (C).

  20. Loosen the mounting bolts for the upper half of the side engine mount bracket, then retighten them to the specified torque.

  21. Loosen the mounting bolts and nut for the upper transmission mount bracket, then retighten them to the specified torque.

  22. Install the connector bracket (A) to the front cylinder head.

  23. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  24. Install the harness bracket (A) to the rear cylinder head.

  25. Connect the ATF cooler hoses to the transmission, and secure the hoses wth the clips (see ATF COOLER HOSE REPLACEMENT ).
  26. Install the A/C compressor (A), then connect the A/C compressor clutch connector (B).

  27. Connect the heater hoses (A).

  29. Install the radiator (see RADIATOR REPLACEMENT ).
  30. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
  31. Install the harness clamps (A).

  33. Connect the PSP switch connector (A).

  34. Connect the power steering fluid hose (A), then secure the hose with the clamp (B).

  35. 4WD model: Install the transfer assembly (see TRANSFER ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION ).
  36. 4WD model: Install the propeller shaft to the transfer shaft flange (see PROPELLER SHAFT INSTALLATION ).
  37. Install a new set ring on the end of each driveshaft, then install the driveshafts (see FRONT DRIVESHAFT INSTALLATION ). Make sure each ring "clicks" into place in the differential and the intermediate shaft.
  38. Connect the suspension lower arms to the knuckles (see BALL JOINT REMOVAL ).
  39. Connect the tie-rod end ball joints to the knuckles (see step 9 in KNUCKLE/HUB/WHEEL BEARING REPLACEMENT ).
  40. Install the damper fork (see step 3 in LOWER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  41. Install exhaust pipe (A) using new gaskets (B) and new self locking nuts (C).

  42. Install the engine undercover.

  43. Install front wheels.
  44. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  45. Install the shift cable (see SHIFT CABLE REPLACEMENT ).
  46. Align the reference mark (A) on the steering joint and the steering gearbox pinion shaft. Connect the steering joint (B) to the steering gearbox pinion shaft (C). Tighten the steering joint bolts.

  47. Remove the steering wheel holder tool (see step 58 in STEERING GEARBOX INSTALLATION ).
  48. Install the steering joint cover (D).
  49. Install the P/S pump outlet line (A) and the P/S pump inlet line (B) to the P/S pump and install the P/S hose bracket (C).

  50. Install the drive belt (see DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT ).
  51. Connect the fuel feed hose (A), then install the quick-connect fitting cover (B):
  52. Connect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose (A) and the brake booster vacuum hose (B).
  53. Connect the engine wire harness connector (A), then install the harness clamps (B) and the bracket (C).

  54. Install the driver's side front fender trim (see FRONT FENDER TRIM REPLACEMENT ).
  55. Connect the PCM connectors (A), then install the PCM with the bracket (B).

  57. Connect the battery cables (A) to the under-hood fuse/relay box.

  58. Install the battery base (A), then install the harness clamp (B) and the bolt (C).

  59. Install the air cleaner (see AIR CLEANER ELEMENT INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT ).
  60. Install the front grille cover (see FRONT GRILLE COVER REPLACEMENT ).
  61. Install the splash separator (see step 4 in INTAKE AIR RESONATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  62. Install the engine cover (see step 1 in IGNITION COIL AND SPARK PLUG REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  63. Install the strut brace (see FRAME BRACE REPLACEMENT ).
  64. Do the battery installation procedure (see BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
  65. Inspect for fuel leaks. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II) (do not operate the starter) so the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel line. Repeat this operation three times, then check for fuel leakage at any point in the fuel line.
  66. Refill the engine with the recommended engine oil (see BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
  67. Refill the transmission with ATF (see step 6 in ATF REPLACEMENT ).
  68. Move the shift lever to each gear, and verify that the A/T gear position indicator follows the transmission range switch.
  69. Refill the reservoir with power steering fluid (see step 6 on FLUID REPLACEMENT ).
  70. Refill the radiator with engine coolant (see step 7 in COOLANT REPLACEMENT ).
  71. Do the power steering system bleeding procedure (see step 7 in FLUID REPLACEMENT ).
  72. Do the cooling system bleeding procedure (see step 10 in COOLANT REPLACEMENT ).
  73. Check for fluid leaks.
  74. Reinstall the driver's side hood support strut bracket (A) with the bolts to proper locations.

  75. Reattach the passenger's side hood support strut on the pivot bolt (see HOOD SUPPORT STRUT REPLACEMENT ).
  76. Do the PCM reset procedure (see HDS CLEAR COMMAND ).
  77. Do the crankshaft position (CKP) pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure (see CKP PATTERN CLEAR/CKP PATTERN LEARN ).
  78. Inspect the idle speed (see IDLE SPEED INSPECTION ).
  79. Inspect the ignition timing (see IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION ).
  80. Check the wheel alignment (see WHEEL ALIGNMENT ).
