Oil Pump Overhaul: Installation
- Remove the old crankshaft oil seal from the oil pump.
- Gently tap in the new crankshaft oil seal until the special tool bottoms on the pump.
- Remove any old liquid gasket from the oil pump mating surfaces, bolts, and bolt holes.
- Clean and dry the oil pump mating surfaces.
- Install the oil pump (A).
- -1 Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003, or 08718-0009, evenly to the engine block mating surface of the oil pump.NOTE: Do not install the parts if 4 minutes or more have elapsed since applying liquid gasket. Instead, re-apply liquid gasket after removing the old residue.
- -2 Grease the lip of the oil seal, and apply oil to the new O-ring (B).
- -3 Install the dowel pins (C), then align the inner rotor with the crankshaft and install the oil pump.
- -4 Clean the excess grease off the crankshaft, and check the seal for distortion.
- -1 Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003, or 08718-0009, evenly to the engine block mating surface of the oil pump.
- Apply oil to the new O-ring (D), then install the oil screen (E).
- Install the oil pan (see OIL PAN INSTALLATION ).
- Install the VTEC solenoid valve and oil filter assembly (see VTEC SOLENOID VALVE REPLACEMENT ).
- Install the CKP sensor A/B (see CKP SENSOR REPLACEMENT ).
- Install the timing belt (see TIMING BELT INSTALLATION ).
- Remove the chain hoist.
- After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.
