Tailgate Latch Replacement
NOTE:
- Take care not to scratch the tailgate.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Remove the tailgate lower trim panel (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - TAILGATE AREA ).
- Remove the tailgate latch (A).
- 1 Disconnect the tailgate rod (B) from the clip (C) of the tailgate latch.
- 2 Disconnect the cylinder rod (D) from the clip (E) of the tailgate lock cylinder.
- 3 Disconnect the actuator connector (F).
- 4 Remove the screws securing the latch.
- 5 Remove the latch through the hole in the tailgate. Take care not to bend the tailgate rod and cylinder rod.
NOTE: Check for damaged clips, and replace it if necessary. - Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Make sure the actuator connector is plugged in properly, and each rod is connected securely.
- If the tailgate rod (A) was disconnected at the upper end (the tailgate stop assembly side), reconnect it with its lower end in the bottom hole in the lever (B).
- Make sure the tailgate locks and opens properly.
