DTC P0340: CMP Sensor A No Signal (2004-2005 models); DTC P0344: CMP Sensor A Circuit Intermittent Interruption (2004-2005 models); DTC P1361: CMP (TDC) Sensor A Circuit Intermittent Interruption (2000-2003 models); DTC P1362: CMP (TDC) Sensor A No Signal (2000-2003 models)
NOTE:
- Information marked with an asterisk (*) applies to 2004-2005 models.
- Information marked with double asterisk (**) applies to 2000-2003 models.
- Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Reset the ECM (see HOW TO RESET THE ECM ).
- Start the engine.
Is DTC P0344* (P1361)** or P0340* (P1362)** indicated?
- YES - Go to step 3.
- NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at CMP (TDC) sensor A and at the ECM.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect CMP (TDC) sensor A 2P connector.
- At the sensor side, measure resistance between CMP (TDC) sensor 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.

Is there 1,850-2,450 Ω?
- YES - Go to step 6.
- NO - Replace CMP (TDC) sensor A (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ).
- At the sensor side, check for continuity to body ground on both terminals individually.
Is there continuity?
- YES - Replace CMP (TDC) sensor A (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ).
- NO - Go to step 7.
- Reconnect CMP (TDC) sensor A 2P connector.
- Disconnect ECM connector C (31P).
- Measure resistance between ECM connector terminals C20 and C21.

Is there 1,850-2,450 Ω?
- YES - Go to step 10.
- NO - Repair open or short in the faulty sensor wire(s).
- Check for continuity between body ground and ECM connector terminal C20.

Is there continuity?
- YES - Repair short to body ground in the faulty sensor wire(s).
- NO - Substitute a known-good ECM (see HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE ECM FOR TESTING PURPOSES ) and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original ECM (see ECM REPLACEMENT ).
