Idle Speed Inspection
NOTE:
- Leave the idle air control (IAC) valve connected.
- Before checking the idle speed, check these items:
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) has not been reported on.
- Ignition timing
- Spark plugs
- Air cleaner
- PCV system
- Connect a tachometer or the HDS.
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in Park or neutral) unit the radiator fan comes on, then let the engine idle.
- Check the idle speed without load conditions: headlights, blower fan, radiator fan, and air conditioner not on.
Idle speed should be: 700+/-50 rpm (in Park or neutral)
- Idle the engine for 1 minute with the heater fan switch on HI and the air conditioner on, then check the idle speed.
Idle speed should be: 720+/-50 rpm (in Park or neutral)
