Engine Mechanical: Starters: Description

Cranking system uses a magnetic type reduction starter, and also used as a pinion shaft . When ignition switch is turned to START position, contacts of magnetic switch are closed, and armature rotates. This causes plunger to move drive pinion shift fork, which engages pinion with engine flywheel ring gear. Starter is equipped with an overrunning clutch type gear drive. The brush holder retains 4 brushes in commutator end of starter housing.
