Immobilizer System Test
NOTE:
Perform this test only if vehicle does not start after rewriting (programming) ECM/PCM using Honda PGM Tester.
- Using scan tool, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If DTC P1607 is not present, go to next step. If DTC P1607 is present, replace ECM/PCM. Rewrite or reprogram replacement ECM/PCM using Honda PGM Tester.
- Turn ignition on using proper ignition key. Check immobilizer indicator light. If indicator light is flashing, go to next step. If indicator light is not flashing, check for faulty indicator light bulb or open in Pink wire between instrument cluster assembly and ECM/PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect immobilizer receiver unit 5-pin harness connector. Control unit/receiver is mounted on ignition switch assembly. See Fig 1 . Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and 5-pin harness connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Black wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check for blown fuse No. 1 (15-amp) in driver's underdash fuse/relay box, fuse No. 46 (15-amp) in underhood fuse/relay box, or open in Yellow/Black wire between PGM-FI main relay and immobilizer control unit.
- Check for continuity between ground and immobilizer receiver unit 5-pin harness connector terminal No. 4 (Brown/Black wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Brown/Black wire between immobilizer receiver unit and ground connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Check for continuity of Red wire between immobilizer receiver unit 5-pin harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM/PCM harness connector terminal No. 25. See Fig 2 . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Red wire between immobilizer receiver unit and ECM/PCM harness connector.
- Check for continuity of Blue wire between immobilizer receiver unit 5-pin harness connector terminal No. 3 and ECM/PCM harness connector terminal No. 13. If continuity exists, replace immobilizer receiver unit. See IMMOBILIZER RECEIVER UNIT
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Blue wire between immobilizer receiver unit and ECM/PCM harness connector. After repairs, go to next step.NOTE: If ECM/PCM is replaced or substituted, it must be rewritten (reprogrammed) using Honda PGM Tester.
- Check system operation. If engine still does not start, check ECM/PCM. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If ECM/PCM is faulty, substitute a known-good ECM/PCM and recheck system operation.
