Checking Fuel Pump Operation (Without Scan Tool) - Insight

  1. Remove middle floor panel. Remove access panel from floor. Turn ignition off and disconnect fuel pump 5-pin electrical connector. Locate fuel cut relay, located in engine compartment in front of underhood fuse/relay box. Using a jumper wire, connect fuel cut relay terminals No. 1 (Black/Yellow wire) and No. 2 (Black/Red wire) together. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between body ground and fuel pump 5-pin electrical connector terminal No. 5 (Black/Yellow wire). If battery voltage is available, check fuel pump ground circuit. If ground circuit is okay, replace fuel pump. If battery voltage is not available, check wiring harness between fuel cut relay and fuel pump harness connector.
