Section 2 (Anti-Lock/Traction Control System): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: This article applies to 3.0L V6 models with anti lock/traction control system only. For 2.3L 4-cylinder models with anti-lock system, see ANTI-LOCK - ACCORD 2.3L article.
CAUTION: See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
NOTE: For more information on brake system, see appropriate DISC & DRUM article.

Anti-Lock Brake/Traction Control System (ABS/TCS) is designed to prevent wheel lock-up during hard braking, or loss of traction during acceleration. This allows driver to maintain control of vehicle under severe driving conditions. System consists of ABS/TCS control unit, wheel sensors, wheel pulsers (trigger wheel), modulator unit, indicator light, master cylinder, power booster assembly, powertrain control module, pump motor relay, fail-safe relay, TCS relay and connecting wiring. Modulator unit contains: pump, pump motor, inlet and outlet solenoid valves, TCS NO (normally open) and TCS NC (normally closed) solenoid valves, reservoir and damping chamber. See Fig 1 .

Hydraulic circuit is an independent 4-channel brake system that individually controls each wheel. ABS/TCS control unit calculates slip rate of wheels based on vehicle speed and wheel speed. Modulator unit modifies slip rate by controlling brake fluid pressure to individual wheels.
