Abs Indicator Light Does Not Come On

  1. Check for blown fuse No. 13 (15-amp), located in underdash fuse/relay box. If fuse No. 13 (15-amp) is blown, replace fuse and retest system. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS control unit 12-pin connector "A". See Figure . Turn ignition on. If ABS indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step. If ABS indicator light illuminates, check ABS control unit connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair connector. If problem does not exist, replace ABS control unit with known-good ABS control unit and retest system.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect gauge assembly 12-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and gauge assembly 12-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Yellow wire) and No. 9 (Yellow wire). If battery voltage exists at each terminal, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist at either terminal, check for an open in Yellow wires between underdash fuse/relay box and gauge assembly. If problem exists, repair open in Yellow wire. If problem does not exist, replace underdash fuse/relay box.
  4. Turn ignition off. Check ABS indicator light bulb in gauge assembly. If bulb is blown, replace bulb. If bulb is okay, check for continuity between ground and gauge assembly 12-pin connector terminal No. 6 (Blue/White wire). If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Blue/White wire between gauge assembly and ABS control unit.
  5. Reconnect gauge assembly 12-pin connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and gauge assembly 13-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire) by backprobing. Turn ignition on. If ABS indicator light comes on, repair open in Black wire between gauge assembly 13-pin connector and ground. Ground point is located behind left kick panel, above hood release handle. If ABS indicator light does not come on, replace printed circuit board in gauge assembly. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
