Piston Pin Inspection
- Inspect piston pin for cracks, wear and heat damage. Replace as necessary. Measure piston pin diameter and piston pin bore. Pin-to-piston clearance is difference between the 2 measurements. See PISTONS, PINS & RINGS under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS. If pin-to-piston clearance is greater than specification or service limit (H22A4 or 2.3L engine), replace piston pin with an oversize pin and recheck clearance. Ensure pin-to-piston clearance is within specification. Replace piston if necessary.
- Inspect connecting rod for cracks, wear and heat damage. Replace as necessary. Measure piston pin diameter and connecting rod small end piston pin bore. Piston pin-to-connecting rod clearance is difference between the 2 measurements. See CONNECTING ROD under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS. If pin-to-rod clearance is greater than specification or service limit (H22A4 or 2.3L engine), replace connecting rod and recheck clearance.
