Abs Indicator Light Does Not Come On

  1. Turn ignition on. If ABS indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If ABS indicator light does not illuminate, check for blown METER fuse (15-amp) in underdash fuse/relay box. If METER fuse (15-amp) is blown, replace fuse and recheck. If fuse is okay, disconnect ABS control unit 12-pin connector. See Figure . If ABS indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step. If ABS indicator light illuminates, check for loose ABS control unit connectors. If connectors are okay, replace ABS control unit and recheck.
  2. Disconnect gauge assembly 12-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, check for battery voltage between ground and gauge assembly 12-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Yellow wire) and No. 9 (Yellow wire) individually.
  3. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check for an open in Yellow wires between METER fuse (15-amp) and gauge assembly. If wires are okay, check for an open solid state circuit inside underdash fuse/relay box. Replace underdash fuse/relay box as necessary.
  4. Check ABS indicator light bulb in gauge assembly. Replace as necessary. If bulb is okay, check for continuity between ground and gauge assembly 12-pin connector terminal No. 6 (Blue/White wire). If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Blue/White wire between gauge assembly 12-pin connector and ABS control unit 12-pin connector.
  5. Turn ignition off. Reconnect gauge assembly 12-pin connector. Using a fused jumper wire, backprobe between ground and gauge assembly 13-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire). Turn ignition on. If ABS indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If ABS indicator light does not illuminate, replace ABS indicator light printed circuit board in gauge assembly. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT section.
  6. Repair open in Black wire between gauge assembly 13-pin connector and ground. If wire is okay, repair poor ground terminal connectors G401 or G402. G401 is located at left kick panel, above hood release. G402 is located behind right kick panel, right of blower fan.
