The A/C-heater system is a manual control design. The A/C-heater control unit is electronically linked to system and incorporates a rear window defogger switch. All mode doors on A/C-heater control unit are actuated by control motors. A cable is used to link air mix control motor to the heater valve (located in engine compartment).

System controls include the A/C pressure switch, evaporator temperature sensor, power transistor, fan control switch, air mix control motor, mode control motor, recirculation control motor and system control relays. See Figure and Figure . The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls A/C system operation based on feedback from these components, along with various other engine sensors. The A/C-heater system incorporates a self-diagnostic function.
