Input Tests: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Honda Accord. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting any repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM
article.
CAUTION:
All SRS wire harnesses are covered with yellow insulation. Before you disconnect any part of an SRS wire harness, disconnect the air bag connectors. Whenever the ignition switch is "on" (II), or has been turned "off" for less than three months, be careful not to bump the SRS unit, the air bags could accidentally deploy and cause damage or injuries. See Fig 1
.
- Remove the left kick panel cover, then disconnect the 16-P connector from the integrated control unit. See Fig 2 .
- Remove the integrated control unit from the under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.
- If the terminals are bent, loose, or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
- If the terminals look OK, make the following input tests at the fuse box socket and the integrated control unit connector.
- If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, the control unit must be faulty, replace it.
