Charge Warning Light Check

  1. Turn ignition on. If CHARGE warning light illuminates, go to next step. If CHARGE warning light does not illuminate, go to step 4).
  2. Start engine. If CHARGE warning light turns off, warning light circuit is okay. If CHARGE warning light does not turn off, turn ignition off. Disconnect generator harness connector. See Fig 1 . Turn ignition on. If CHARGE warning light illuminates, go to next step. If CHARGE warning light does not illuminate, circuit is okay. Perform generator/regulator test. See GENERATOR/REGULATOR TEST  .
  3. Disconnect ABS, 4WS and integrated control unit (if equipped). If CHARGE light still stays on, repair short to ground in warning light circuit (White/Blue wire).
  4. Turn ignition off. Check fuse No. 23 (15-amp) in passenger compartment fuse/relay block. Replace as necessary. If fuse is okay, disconnect generator harness connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage at harness connector terminal No. 4 (Black/Yellow wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Black/Yellow wire.
  5. Jumper generator harness connector terminal No. 3 (White/Blue wire) to ground. If CHARGE warning light illuminates, replace voltage regulator. If CHARGE warning light does not illuminate, check for faulty light bulb. If bulb is okay, check for open in White/Blue wire.
