PGM-FI Main Relay Test

  1. If vehicle starts and continues to run, relay is okay. To test, remove main relay. On Civic, PGM-FI main relay is located under right side of dash. On all others, PGM-FI main relay is located under right side of dash. On all models, using jumper wires, connect relay terminal No. 2 to battery voltage. Connect terminal No. 1 to ground. See Fig 1 .
  2. Check for continuity between relay terminals No. 4 and 5. Continuity should exist. If continuity does not exist, replace relay and retest. If continuity exists, connect battery voltage to relay terminal No. 5. Connect terminal No. 3 to ground. Check for continuity between terminals No. 6 and 7. Continuity should exist. If continuity does not exist, replace relay and retest.
  3. Connect battery voltage to relay terminal No. 6. Connect terminal No. 1 to ground. Check for continuity between terminals No. 4 and 5. If continuity does not exist, replace relay and retest. If continuity exists, relay is okay. If fuel pump does not work, go to MAIN RELAY HARNESS CHECK  under FUEL CONTROL.
