Code 6-0, Front Fail-Safe Relay Circuit

  1. Remove and test front fail-safe relay. See RELAY TEST  . If relay is okay, use a DVOM to check for continuity between relay connector Black wire and ground. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit between fail-safe relay and ground. Also check for poor ground connection.
  2. Disconnect 3-pin connectors at front solenoids. Check for continuity in Brown/Black wire between fail-safe relay and solenoid connectors. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit in Brown/Black wire.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, check for voltage at Yellow/Black wire in fail-safe relay connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open circuit in Yellow/Black wire between fail-safe relay and fuse No. 8.
  4. Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between Red and Black wires and between Yellow and Black wires in front solenoid connectors. If resistance is not 1-3 ohms, replace solenoid(s). If resistance is 1-3 ohms, disconnect 12-pin and 18-pin connectors at control unit. Check resistance between Red/Blue, Yellow/Blue, Red/Black and Yellow/Black wires and ground.
  5. If continuity exists in any wire, repair short to ground. If continuity does not exist, check Yellow/Green wire between front fail-safe relay and control unit. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit in Yellow/Green wire. If continuity exists, substitute a known good control unit, and retest.
