Code 8 - Ignition Output Signal

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove "EFI/ECU" fuse in under-hood relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECU. Start engine and allow to idle. Verify if "CHECK ENGINE" light is on and LED is flashing Code 8. If not, problem is intermittent. Check connections at ignition coil and ECU.
  2. If "CHECK ENGINE" light is on and Code 8 is present, turn ignition off. Disconnect ignition coil primary terminals. Measure resistance between ignition coil terminals "B" and "D". See Fig 1 . If resistance is not about 2000 ohms, replace coil. If okay, reconnect primary connectors.
  3. Connect ECU test harness connectors "A" and "B" to main wire harness side. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between terminals A1 (pos.) and B8 (neg.). If reading is about 10 volts, substitute a known good ECU and recheck. If condition is rectified, replace ECU. If not, repair open Blue wire between ECU terminal A1 and ignition coil.
