Fuel Injected Models

  1. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature (cooling fan comes on). Connect tachometer to engine. Disconnect 2-wire EACV connector. Ensure steering wheel is in straight-ahead position, all accessories and cooling fan are off.
  2. Adjust idle speed, if necessary, by turning adjusting screw on the top of throttle body. Adjust idle speed to 600-700 RPM (A/T & M/T). Reconnect 2-wire EACV connector. Turn ignition off. Remove CLOCK fuse (in underhood relay box) for 10 seconds to reset ECU.
  3. Restart engine. Check idle speed with headlights in high beam, rear defogger on, accessories on, while turning steering wheel, and automatic transmission in gear. Idle should remain stable at the specified RPM. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  table. If idle speed is not as specified, see TESTS W/O CODES article.

    High Altitude
    Manual Transmission 750-850
    Automatic Transmission 700-800
    Fast Idle (2)
    (1) Idle speed is set with headlights and cooling fan off and automatic transmission in Drive.
    (2) Fast idle at low altitude is 1000-2000 RPM. Fast idle at high altitude is 1100-1900 RPM.
