Ignition Control Solenoid Valve: Test I

  1. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Ensure vacuum signal at vacuum hose from intake manifold to emission control box is present. Disconnect 6-wire connector at emission control box.
  2. Connect voltmeter positive lead to Black/Yellow terminal of connector and negative lead to White terminal of connector. Increase engine speed to 1500 RPM and check for voltage.
  3. If voltage is present, replace solenoid valve and retest. If voltage was not present, move voltmeter negative lead to body ground. Raise engine speed to 1500 RPM. If voltage is still not present, repair open or short in Black/Yellow wire between solenoid valve and fuse No. 1 (15A).
  4. If from step 3), voltage was present, check for open in White wire between solenoid valve and ECU. If wire is okay, refer to TESTS W/O CODES article in this section.
