Code 8: TDC/Crank Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1988 Honda Civic. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn off ignition. Remove hazard fuse in main fuse box for 10 seconds to reset ECU. Start engine and observe Check Engine light. If light is off, problem is intermittent. Test drive and check again.
  2. If light is on, turn ignition off. Disconnect sensor connector at distributor. Measure resistance between terminals "B" and "C" (standard and DOHC) or terminals "A" and "B" (HL and Si). See Figure , Figure and Figure . If resistance is not 350-550 ohms, replace distributor assembly. If resistance value is within specification, individually check for continuity between ground and the same respective terminals. If continuity exists, sensor is shorted to ground. Replace distributor assembly.
  3. Reconnect sensor connector. Connect system checker harness to main wiring harness only, not to ECU. Measure resistance between terminals C3 and C4. If resistance is not 350-550 ohms, repair open or short in Orange/Blue and/or White/Blue wire. If resistance value is within specification, substitute a known good ECU. If condition is rectified, replace original ECU.
