Cruise Control Systems: Testing: Actuator

  1. Disconnect actuator cable from actuator rod. Disconnect 4-pin connector from actuator. Connect Brown/White wire to battery positive and Brown/Black, Brown and Black wires to ground. Connect a vacuum pump to check valve. Apply vacuum to actuator. Actuator rod should retract fully into actuator.
  2. If rod retracts only partially or not at all, check for leaking vacuum line or defective solenoid. With voltage and vacuum still applied to actuator, try to pull actuator rod out by hand. You should not be able to pull actuator rod out. If rod can be pulled out, actuator is defective.
  3. Disconnect ground wire from Brown wire. Actuator rod should return. If actuator rod does not return, and ventilation hose and filter are clear, solenoid valve assembly is defective. Reconnect Brown wire and apply vacuum to actuator. Actuator rod should retract fully into actuator.
  4. Disconnect ground from Black wire. Actuator rod should return. If actuator rod does not return, and ventilation hose and filter are clear, solenoid valve assembly is defective. When replacing a defective solenoid valve assembly, ensure new "O" rings are used at each solenoid.
